With our current difficult economy, many traditional colleges and universities are encountering major economic challenges. Conversely, the vast majority of online institutions of higher education are enjoying unprecedented success. In fact, the single largest private college or university in the U.S. is now an online college.

Does that come as a suprise to you? It probably doesn’t if you remember that online college programs are generally far less expensive than their on-campus counterparts. And, they are far more flexible and convenient. But, despite their advantages, online colleges are not the best option for everyone.

Before you rush into an online degree program, carefully consider the following questions.

1. Will another degree move you closer to your career and/or financial goals?

2. Can you reserve at least six or seven hours a week for your studies?

3. Are you willing to make the necessary financial commitment to further education? Financial aid is available, including loans. So are tuition installment plans. But, there is some expense.

4. Do you have the determination and focus that earning an online degree requires?

5. Do you have a computer and suitable study area?

If you responded affirmatively to the preceeding questions, you are a great candidate for an online degree program. Your next step is to check out the 4-5 colleges which appear most appealing to you and investigate them thoroughly before making a final selection.
