Currently there are many different accelerated degree programs that you will be able to choose between when you’re ready to get back to school. It’s important to understand what accelerated programs really are and what they really offer to help make your decision.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to pursuing accelerated online degree programs. It’s important to be able to evaluate these accelerated programs so that you know what to expect and so that you can figure out if they are really a good match for you.
First, let’s define an accelerated program so we are all on the same page moving forward. Accelerated degrees are simply degrees that you can finish in less time than the average or expected pace. The typical Bachelors degree that takes 4 years or longer to complete can be finished in 2 years or less with accelerated programs.
Therefore you are cutting down your schooling time in half, which gives you a huge advantage as you can progress your life and your career that much quicker. Similar improvements in pace – eliminating half the time – are available regardless of what kind of degree you are pursuing.
The majority of accelerated programs that you’ll find will be offered in an online setting. Basically what this means is that you can take all of your classes and complete all of your work right from your home, or wherever you have your computer. In addition to the quick pace, this offers many other advantages.
One of the key selling point for an online course is how convenient and flexible it is. You can do your work and listen to your lectures at any time of the day or night, and any day of the week. You don’t have to commute to classrooms or show up anywhere at specific times. Plus, you’ll be able to attend any university regardless of its physical location. All of these benefits mean that online programs are very advantageous, particularly for working adults.
Even with all of these advantages, not everyone is interested in online programs. This is because many people feed off of the on-campus environment and they need that for their education. Many other people need the in-person classroom and rigid attendance guidelines in order to make sure that they complete their assignments and actively learn.
Another possible disadvantage of an accelerated degree is that some people can’t move from one topic to the next so quickly. Additionally, some people can’t handle the constant heavy course load. To complete a full degree program in less than two years requires you to stay busy with many classes at once, and classes all throughout the year without long breaks. If this isn’t appealing to you then you should not pursue an accelerated program.
The benefits of an accelerated program make most people feel that it’s a strong choice for them. Being able to finish your degree in half the time it takes most people, while enjoying the flexibility of an online environment is too much to pass up on for many students today.
